Youth & Society

This course is a General Education Pathways (IS) course serving undergraduate students (including students with majors outside of education) who are interested in exploring the intersections between individuals, learning, and society. Students will explore various historical conceptualizations of youth and adolescence to deepen their critical understanding of the social, economic, and public policy issues that affect young people today. Learners will gain experiential knowledge and problem-solving skills by participating in a coordinated service-learning project in partnership with local youth-focused organizations. Outside of class meetings, students will spend 16 hours engaging in on-site learning experiences, which take place during Weeks 4-12 of the semester (2 hours per week over the course of 8 weeks).
