Department: Physics

The study of physics provides students with strong analytical skills and a foundation for understanding other basic sciences. The physics curriculum covers the topics of mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics, relativity, quantum mechanics, and specialized topics in classical and modern physics. Experimental skills are developed in several laboratory courses. Qualified undergraduates may take graduate level courses and may participate in internationally respected experimental and theoretical research efforts within the department.

The B.S. and B.A. degrees in Physics enable graduates to pursue graduate studies in Physics, to qualify for positions in industrial and government laboratories, or to pursue careers in related fields such as Science Education and Engineering. In addition, physics graduates have successfully entered the fields of Astronomy, Biophysics, Astrophysics, Computer Science and Medicine. 

The Minor program in Physics aims to familiarize students with both classical and modern physics concepts. This relatively accessible program is intended for two types of students: those who enjoy science but do not plan to major in it and students majoring in other science fields who want to enhance their background and improve their future opportunities.
