Description
Exploration of philosophical and legal issues concerning race and gender in US law, focusing on how US law shapes, reflects, and perpetuates racial and gender hierarchies in US society and abroad. We will examine critical race theory, feminist legal theory, intersectionality, and the relationship between social identity and US legal structures. By examining historical and contemporary legal cases and policies, you will gain a deeper understanding of the role law plays in reinforcing or challenging racial and gendered hierarchies. The course encourages you to critically examine the intersections of race, gender, and the law within the context of justice, equality, and rights and US society.
