Description
In this course students will focus on curriculum, instruction and assessment for teaching secondary general music including music in middle schools. Students will learn about children's musical thinking from a developmental point of view. Students will learn and practice teaching strategies for supporting student learning as defined by city, state, and national standards for music education. Students will learn and practice strategies for teaching music from a multicultural perspective. There is an intensive field component to this class that allows students the opportunity to teach and then reflect on their experiences with children. Weekly observations are also required. Students must pass this course with a grade of B or higher to be allowed to student teach.
