A basic course in appreciation, designed to develop an understanding of music. Following an introduction to the basic principles of musical organization and expression, selected masterpieces of western music are studied with regard to content, form, and style. MUSIC 1 is prerequisite for all elective courses in Music Literature(MUSIC 12 and MUSIC 111 through 241).
