Topics may include how gender and such factors as race, ethnicity, sexuality, and/or class shape women’s lives; the emergence of the category “women writers” and its relationship to literary studies; and conditions affecting women’s literacy and literary production. The course can focus on a single period, a particular genre, or a specific theme (marriage, politics and society, the nation). May be repeated for credit if the topic is different.
