The interdisciplinary and cross-cultural study of manifestations of European thought and identities (historical, social, intellectual, religious, political, and gender-related) as reflected in different literary periods in a variety of forms and genres of European literatures (prose, poetry, drama, diaries, memoirs, folklore).The thematic focus may vary each semester. May be repeated once for credit provided the topic is different. Two semesters of instruction in one foreign language, or permission of the department is required.
