Description
Comparative literature as a discipline has moved beyond its strictly philological origins and now encompasses a range of areas of inquiry from postcolonialism to cultural, cinema, and performance studies. This course's primary goal is to explore the various ways in which "literature" has been constructed as a field, within an explicitly transnational context. Through a combination of theoretical texts and literary works, the course will explore a wide range of approaches to reading and interpretation.
